Understanding the Stages of Dementia
Alzheimer’s and other dementias progress slowly through three stages: mild, moderate, and severe. In the mild stage, a patient may remain relatively independent but struggle to recall recent conversations, names, or events — often accompanied by depression and apathy.
As dementia progresses, communication skills deteriorate, judgment becomes impaired, and disorientation becomes constant. In the final stages, sufferers may experience difficulty speaking, swallowing, and walking. Early placement in appropriate care can greatly improve quality of life.

Finding the Right Memory Care Facility
50–70% of those with dementia also have Alzheimer’s disease. Other forms include dementia with Lewy bodies, Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration, and dementia related to underlying conditions. Each requires a tailored approach to care, environment, and staffing.
We maintain partnerships with top-rated memory care facilities across the country. Whether your loved one needs mild cognitive support or full-time specialized care, we’ll help you find the right fit at no cost to your family.
