Medicare Made Easy for Seniors in Home Care, New Jersey
Most people understand that Medicare is the federal program covering hospital and medical needs for those over 65. Many of us, however, may not know what is covered in the four parts of the Medicare program. The following descriptions are designed to make Medicare a little easier for New Jersey seniors in home care and their families to understand:
- Medicare Part A helps seniors cover hospital stays, skilled nursing facilities, home care New Jersey, and hospice care (even in-home).
- Medicare Part B helps seniors cover regular doctor’s services, outpatient care, physical and occupational therapists, and some home health care.
- Medicare Part C is actually a combination of Parts A, B and D.
- Medicare Part D is coverage to alleviate the costs of prescription drugs. If a senior decides not to join a prescription drug plan when they are first eligible and they don’t have another resource for coverage, they will pay for their prescription medications out of pocket.
What many seniors and their families don’t understand is that Medicare doesn’t cover everything. It also has deductibles, co-insurance, and co-payments, just like other health insurance plans. Some of the services that Medicare doesn’t cover are long-term care, routine dental care, cosmetic surgery, acupuncture, hearing aids, and other medical services.
